The wide, shallow-shelled taiko — 54 inches of head on a body only a fraction as deep. That geometry gives it a fast, enormous low end with far less sustain than an odaiko, which is exactly why scoring stages reach for it: the impact lands and gets out of the way of the orchestra. Mounted on a stand and playable flat or angled.
